Thorn Queen (Dark Swan, Book 2) - Richelle Mead Well, the jury is in. I will be reading the third book in Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series. Thorn Queen has won me over. Huzzah! There was a lot of things I didn't think I would have liked about this book, but overall I'm hooked.Eugenie is settling into her role as the Thorn Queen in the Otherworld. She maintains a life as a human in our world though, keeping a proverbial foot in each place. While practicing her Shaman duties in our world she discovers a line of fae traffickers for illicit sex trade. Vowing to get to the bottom of this she uses every means of investigation at her disposal. Meanwhile, her relationship with Kiyo has taken some interesting turns, the people in her dominion are starving, and she has courtiers attempting to woo her, despite having a very prominent lover. It's all just part and parcel for the heir of the Storm King. I enjoyed the non-romantic conflicts in this very much. This book has a lot more realistic problems to it then just the typical boy drama that was prevalent in Storm Born. I found the trade agreements, the starvation (all of the things that Eugenie must face as Queen) fascinating...especially when it's revealed that it's all her fault. So yes, fascinating book. It was set up to be a 5 for me... and then there were 3 sex scenes in 60 pages... and a foreplay scene shortly after... yet more sex... yet more... sigh. I could have had about half the amount and I would have been sated. Still, Mead has won me over. I simply have to know what happens in the next book... war is brewing... and oh gods am I into it. Any more discussion and I'll start dropping spoilers. 4 out of 5 stars. - review courtesy of www.bibliopunkk.com
