The Dead Girls' Dance (The Morganville Vampires, #2) - Rachel Caine Well, I'm through number 2 of the Morganville Vampires series. I think it's safe to say that I like them... of course it's Rachel Caine, and she's uber wonderful most of the time. So there's that.In The Dead Girl's Dance Claire Danvers faces new foes in the secluded college town of Morganville Texas... besides the Vampires that run the whole town, of course. The newest blight on the town comes in the form of a vigilante group of bigoted human vampire slayers, headed up by none other than Shane's father. Things are well and good (except for the crazy tension) until a vampire gets staked and Shane gets blamed for it. Claire will do anything to protect her friend, but is it enough?I still really like these books... I'm only 2 in though, let's see how I feel about book 7 (there are 8 currently and 1 on the way). Something about this one annoyed me though... in the last one Claire's parents ordered her home... no nonsense... Well, that was a worry for about the first 3 pages, and then nothing. Now, I know that Caine set up the mythos to allow for this, people tend to forget the events and goings on in Morganville once they are outside of it... however, in the case of parental throwing down the gauntlet I must protest! They give Claire an ultimatum about living in the glass house, and then they just forget all about it? Annoying. I'm waiting to see how many books it takes for the parental units to storm back to remove their daughter from the influence of 18+ year olds...18 year olds who keep beer in the house no less... the nerve! It reminds me of my least favourite ending in any book... the "It was all a dream!" ending. So it works for The Wizard of Oz, but that's the only allowance. It opens the door for weak writing. "I'm not sure how to get them out of this conundrum, so I'll just do this" scribble scribble scribble. I wonder how many times this ploy will be utilized in this series, because I'll likely become quickly irritated with it.Still, not bad after that point. Characters are great and the story flows strong. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Once again.- review courtesy of www.bibliopunkk.net
