Carrier of the Mark - Leigh Fallon Well, I burned through that really fast. This week's recent page turner The Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon, is due to hit store shelves in October. A few lucky souls (like this girl) got the privilege of reading it early... and, let me just say, it was a joy. Megan's father has just acquired a new job that lands them both in Ireland. Years ago Megan's mother was killed in an accident, leaving Megan scarred on her neck. Since then Megan and Caleb have moved from place to place trying to find home. Kinsale proves promising enough... Megan quickly makes friends and begins to carve out a life. She finds herself very compelled by the local, aloof hottie, Adam DeRĂs, even though she's unnerved by him working with her Father. When an accident brings the two of them together Megan unearths an ancient destiny that will shape not only their relationship but the fate of the world as well. The Carrier of the Mark is a great book. I enjoyed the hell out of it. It's action intense and has a cast of characters are all likeable and realistic. I found this to be an easy book to read and was surprised to see I had blown through most of it in one sitting. I think it's the beginning of, what will be, a terrific series. I do have two small things that irked me (only slightly) about the book. The first is this - for the beginning of this book I felt I was reading another very popular Young Adult series... *coughcoughsparklyvampirescoughcough* ... It's hard for me to say this, but yeah...the formula is very similar. I even described it to a friend who pointed out that I sounded like I was reading Twilight. For the record though, everything that was done right in Twilight is infinitely better in this book... like lightyears better. Cosmoses better. For those Twilight fans who are annoyed with yourselves over how much you liked it (...erm...like this girl) this is for you. It's atmospherically lush and gorgeous and the mythos is creative, if a little bit complicated. That was my second small complaint... but I nitpick. It's pretty awesome. Seriously though, never read a mythos like this in my life. Mad props, Fallon... Wow, you're inventive. Now there's how you do sexual tension right. Mad. Props. I really can't wait to see what you do with...this. I highly recommend it. I think it's one to watch... it's going to be huge. 4.5 out of 5 stars. - review courtesy of www.bibliopunkk.net
